Story

Coven Academy takes place in New Orleans, where an elite boarding school secretly trains young people with supernatural abilities.

The story follows Briar Roberts, a fiercely independent teenager from New York who discovers that she is a witch. Her arrival at the academy brings her into a hidden supernatural world filled with witches, warlocks and vampires.

Briar also becomes connected to a mystery involving her mother and her own past. As she learns more about her abilities, she becomes part of a young coven that must deal with dangerous forces threatening New Orleans.

The students have to learn how to control their powers while dealing with ordinary teenage problems such as friendship, attraction, jealousy and first love.

The situation becomes more complicated because of the conflict between witches and vampires. Briar also becomes caught between Jake, a magnetic young warlock, and Ollie, a newly turned vampire.

Characters & Supernatural Powers

One of the most interesting things about the show is that not every character has the same powers.

The New Orleans Setting

New Orleans is more than just a backdrop for Coven Academy. The city gives the series an atmosphere naturally suited to supernatural storytelling.

The academy exists within a world of magic, hidden identities and old supernatural conflicts. The combination of an elite boarding school and New Orleans allows the series to move between familiar teenage experiences and a much larger fantasy world.

Students still have to deal with friendships, romance and school life, but those ordinary problems can become much more dangerous when the people involved can manipulate thoughts, bend time or practice dark magic.

Chapter-Based Format

One unusual feature of the show is its chapter-based format.

Disney describes the series as a bingeable experience made up of fast-paced chapters. D23 identifies the first season as a 21-chapter series.

This structure is designed to keep individual story developments moving quickly rather than treating the series as a conventional slow-burning supernatural drama.

For viewers, that means the story can be approached as one continuous supernatural school adventure.

Season 1 Episodes

Current episode listings identify Season 1 as a 10-episode season. The series is also officially described by D23 as a 21-chapter series, reflecting its fast-paced chapter-based storytelling format.

The currently published schedule confirms the first seven episode titles and dates, while episodes 8–10 are currently listed without finalized public titles or descriptions.

Awards

No awards announced yet. Coven Academy is a new 2026 series and has not received any major announced television awards as of its launch period.

Review

Coven Academy is built around a familiar supernatural-school concept but places its own emphasis on New Orleans, teenage witches, forbidden romance and the conflict between witches and vampires.

The central mystery surrounding Briar gives the series its main narrative hook, while the different supernatural abilities of Sasha, Tegan, Jake and Ollie create several directions for the story.

The show’s chapter-based format also makes it different from a traditional long-form weekly drama. D23 describes it as a 21-chapter series designed around fast-paced storytelling.

The combination of fantasy, coming-of-age drama, comedy, horror and romance makes Coven Academy suitable for viewers looking for a supernatural teen series with a lighter Disney/Freeform presentation.

Trailer

The official Coven Academy teaser and trailer introduce Briar, Jake, Sasha, Tegan, Ollie and Miss Graves while establishing the supernatural school and the mysteries surrounding Briar.

The first teaser uses Olivia Rodrigo’s “Brutal” and focuses on the tensions developing between the students, Briar’s past and Jake’s increasingly dangerous magical interests.

Official Trailer: Available through Disney+/Freeform promotional channels.

Season 2

At launch, there is no confirmed Season 2 release date announced in the official information currently available.

The first season establishes a supernatural world with multiple characters, magical abilities and unresolved conflicts, giving the story plenty of room to continue if the series is renewed.

Any future Season 2 announcement would need to come from Freeform, Disney or Hulu.
